Aug 2, 2024 by La'Tracia Jones — Some of the most nostalgic moments as a child during Spring Break, were hearing the ice cream truck in the neighborhood, running in the house to grab all the change you could find. Scouring the couches, underneath bed, on the counter, and in your velcro wallet. Chasing the ice cream truck was certainly top-notch cardio, but the cool down was the first lick that made it all worth it. 

Nothing tops you and your friends sitting on the curb, discussing important issues in life, like the new J’s that were coming out. If we saw the new Soulja Boy video and learned the dance. If we were going to get the new Girbaud jeans and name belts. All while on SPRING BREAK eating ice cream. What ice cream flavors were the best? I think we can all agree, the best money spent as a child was on a Ninja Turtle, a Tweety, or a Sonic the Hedgehog ice cream pops. What was better than eating the cold, yet hard gumball eyes last?

As I matured, walking to Family Value Supermarket, with my sister and cousins, to get a Hershey’s strawberry shortcake was the highlight of the day. Those were the good ole days. Many of us still converse over ice cream to connect with old friends, celebrate wins, enjoy time with family and binge eat when we are emotionally exhausted. Spring Break watches not only allow individuals to express their style through creative color ways, but also through connectedness and experience. I could only imagine being from Fayetteville seeing all the names of the watches and how they are connected to my upbringing.

When I think about designing with Spring Break, I envision watches that resemble ice cream flavors. If you were to go to an ice cream parlor today, you could guess several flavors based on the look without having to sample. Designing a watch that gives flavor and fashion is undeniably tasteful and refreshing! Some of the most talked about ice cream flavors will forever include but are not limited to strawberry short cake, cookie monster, birthday cake, butter pecan, pralines and cream, cookies and cream, and mint chocolate chip. I can imagine exactly what the watches would look like just thinking of the ice cream. Can you?
